Jan Jansz Wijnants (1630 - 1684)

Jan Jansz Wijnants (Wynants) (1630 - 1684), was a Dutch landscape painter of the Baroque era, active first in Haarlem, then from 1660 in Amsterdam, where he also kept an inn, but was still always in debt.

Born 1630 in Haarlem, he was the son of an art dealer also named Jan Wijnants. After his mother’s death, his father remarried Maria Jans van Stralen, widow of Jasper Jaspersz van Heemskerck and mother of the painter Egbert Jaspersz van Heemskerck, making Wijnant and Van Heemskerck stepbrothers.
